The Enforcement Directorate has summoned police officials close to former Deputy Commissioner (DCP) of Kolkata Police Shantanu Sinha Biswas on multiple charges including illegal land grabbing.
Biswas was earlier arrested by the central invastigative agency.

Sources indicate that the ED has summoned three police officers close to Biswas including Nurul Amin, a serving officer with the Kolkata Police, who appeared before the central agency’s office on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that the ED has summoned several family members of Biswajit Poddar, alias Sona Pappu, who was arrested in connection with the same case on May 18 after prolonged questioning. Pappu, a history sheeter known for his close ties with several political figures, faces several charges ranging from land grabbing to extortion, as well as those under the Arms Act.
Earlier, Joy Kamdar, a businessman from Kolkata’s Behala area, a close associate of Sona Pappu, was arrested in the case. Kamdar was accused of facilitating illegal transactions worth Rs 1,100 crore through several shell companies.
During Kamdar’s interrogation, investigators were directed at former Kolkata Police DC Shantanu Sinha Biswas. Investigators had seized numerous documents while conducting a search at Biswas’ Fern Road residence.
Reports indicate that the ED has obtained information suggesting that substantial amounts of money were deposited into Biswas’s account in exchange for extending favours to Sona Pappu and Joy Kamdar.
Investigators claim that apart from Biswas, several police officers close to him also benefitted from financial transactions. As per sources from the ED, three officers were summoned to verify these allegations. The central agency had previously searched Nurul Amin’s residence.
ED to interrogate Sona Pappu’s wife
It has been learnt that the ED intends to interrogate Sona Pappu’s wife and several other family members in connection with the case.
During a search operation at Pappu’s residence, the police had recovered a 7mm pistol purchased in his wife’s name, sold by Kamdar’s company. The ED has also alleged that transactions worth crores took place between Pappu and Kamdar’s company.
ED sources believe that the interrogation may help in understanding the reasons behind these transactions and the need for purchasing the weapon.
